0:10 Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to Must Play. Today we're doing another bonus round and we are checking in on our goals for 2025 here at the mid year point. TJ, good to see you. Good to see you as well, Sean. No guess these are becoming my favorite pods to be honest, because it's more of a hang and hopefully the fans, you know, Rev may be out there has a cold one. 0:31 He's porn and he's like oh, OK, little little something different. Maybe he's. Watching it's enjoying it, Yeah. Hopefully get a little bit more used to some of these. I think we're going to have more of these coming as we've fulfill our promise to have more, at least one bonus round every month for the rest of the year and moving forward. 0:47 And then I think we might have some shorter versions of these starting to pop up on our social channels. Just, you know more of us talking shop or or going off on a funny topic like what are your favorite liquids to put on your five fingers? Exactly. But we promise to always have an agenda. So we're not going completely off the rails. 1:04 And that's a good segue for today because we are going to start with our golf goals that we made at the beginning on New Year's Day and then we'll go through the pod ones. And then we had a highlight on some courses we wanted to play. So your first one here, you said you were. Going to hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. 1:20 Really quickly I wanted to ask you, how are you feeling overall about these goals? Like what? What is your sentiment on these? Oh, I'm making good progress, but I'm worried about one goal in particular. Really good. SO11 just has you shaken in your boots. 1:38 It's the only thing I can think of like the other goals I have was like, what, What did I put there? And then I remembered and then I went and knocked out a few. There's one that I think's tough but doable, and there's one that's just tough and I don't know if I I don't know if I have the strength. I mean, I hope you do. 1:55 I would let there's nothing cooler than hitting the end of the year and saying I crossed off all of my goals, right? Yes, before I ask you the same question, the goal that I'm worried about, can you promise me right here on the Pod Live that you will at least attempt to film me on my last attempt at trying to do this one goal? 2:16 I, I think I know which goal you're talking about. I think as long as it is timed properly with Thanksgiving or you want to try and do it in California, I think we will make sure that I am there and we do the full and we do the full treatment for it 'cause I think I know what you want to do there. 2:35 But we'll, we can cross that bridge when we start to talk about that goal. OK, how are you feeling about your goals? So I feel good. There are a lot. There's one that I've already crossed off. We're we're good on one, which is which is very cool to say halfway through the year. 2:52 And I think there is there's one that is a large one that if I I think I have to achieve a few of the other ones on there to get to that one. So I think that's going to be really cool if I can hit that this year and then I get to cross off those other ones. 3:10 And then there's some, there's a few that are absolute shootings. They're going to get done by the end of the year for sure. One of your rounds could check off like three or four of those. Goals. That's that's exactly what I'm talking about. Let's get into the goals. Let's not keep the people waiting so we can talk about what we actually want to talk. About yes. OK. 3:27 So we're in July, we're past Midway and you had play 20 rounds in 2025. Can you report to us how many rounds have you played so far? OK, so I dove into 18 birdies this morning. In 2025, I have 13 rounds recorded in 18 birdies that that does not count. 3:49 There's two rounds that we played in Rams Hill that I did not put in 18 birdies. You may want to call me a sandbagger or whatever for not putting these really bad rounds into 18 birdies, but none of the conditions that we played in were ideal for me to actually end up putting those rounds and putting them in against my handicap and potentially over inflating it. 4:11 Can you give everyone just a little? Quick taste of maybe one of those rounds like why? We can talk about the second day, which was even, which is just the one that was really bad second day. I mean, the first day I could not hit driver to save my life and I thought for sure, oh, there's no way that this transfers over into a second day. 4:33 Well you're not doing yourself any favors if you get insanely hammered the night before and then can't do like I couldn't even function the next day. Like I think I laid in bed awake for 2 1/2 hours before I actually got out of bed and tried to like take a sip of water or try to communicate with another human or even like check a phone. 4:56 So the the the snap hook left and not getting off the tee just continued on to the next day and the Violet hangover persisted to where like I don't think I ate anything until like the turn and it was free tacos and was like I should probably eat something. 5:12 It's 95° outside. So also ironically at Rams, there was like 3 or 4 four holes that had water short left of the tee box and you had that left hook going in the water each of those times. 5:28 It was tough. It was really tough and I felt really bad for you on that one. It was really, really bad and then wildly found the driver in like the back half of the round. But at that point it's way too far to even try and salvage and put like a 110 in or something plus of that. 5:47 So yeah, it was just, it was brutal. So I would say at minimum we are at 15 rounds for this year. I think there's probably some ancillary random twilight rounds that I've played at like our executive course that I haven't put in. But I'm fairly confident that we're going to get five more rounds in this year. 6:07 OK. You're doing well on this one. Yeah. So you're go ahead. No, you go ahead. I. Was going to keep going through yours. So you had five new Golf courses. How many of these rounds have been at new Golf courses? So we have 6 new Golf courses played this year. 6:24 Strike it from the list. It's done. The list here is, let's see, Rams Hill. I played Arrowwood for the first time this year up in Oceanside. I I crossed off 3 Arizona courses in one trip. 6:43 I played Biltmore with Alex from Babes Golf which I I played the the Estates course at Biltmore. Sorry I played the Lynx course at Biltmore. I'd never played the Estates course pre or post, Renault, Mountain Shadows I had never played and Camelback Ambiente I had never played. 7:03 What was the other? There's one more that I did this year. Was it goat? You've been to GOAT before this year, right? No, I think, I think you and I had gone to go. We had gone to Goat last year when we played with with AZ and and and done that recording for Goat Hill. 7:20 I know that. Was just that was this year because I had GOAT as one of my courses I wanted to do this year for the. First, you're right, it was so it was GOAT. We did play GOAT for the first time this year. Yeah. So that's yes. Oh, then it's 7 then. Well, no, sorry. 7:35 That other. No, no, no, it's not 7. The other course that I was thinking was what I played on New Year's Eve last year, not New Year's Day. The Tecalote infamous. No, that was that was Mission Trails. Let's let's make for great podcasting here while I scroll through an app really quick. 7:54 OK, I'll do elevator music. See if we can just find animal back. Marriott built more. Oh, I played in magic down in Easton Rd. So Rev's home, Rev's home course, you know, it's literally 5 minutes from his house. 8:11 So yeah, 7 new courses this year 'cause I forgot about go. So we smashed through that and that's within the first half of the year. Well, we're gonna stretch that and try and maybe do 10 this. Year then. OK, yeah. How many of those, if any, had No 3 putts 'cause this is your next goal, a round with No 3 putt? 8:29 The the three putt, I think the thing the interesting thing about the three putt and I'll I'll jump a little bit forward into the round here with with No2 chips. I think that there are some rounds where this has happened so far, but I also think that these there are rounds where I have picked my ball up on a hole and just put myself down for like a double par, not a double bogey, like a double par and been like look like let's not over inflate my handicap any more than it needs to be. 9:02 Also no, it's just the Max. The Max right so I so there's been times where it's like I've looked and it's been like, oh, I had No 3 putts this round or oh, I had no two chips on this round, but at some point I picked my ball up. So I think these need to have good asterisks added to them on being like needs to have played out his entire round for these to count. 9:27 Does that make sense? Yeah, I like that. Yeah. So we're saying no for both round with No2 chips and round with No 3 putts, correct. OK, play around with the same ball. I cannot get rid of the one stray penalty throughout the round. 9:47 Yeah, I could go out there and play a course with no water, municipal style where everything runs back-to-back and I'm still going to manage to put like 1 ball in a random Bush and not find it 'cause I will say when I played the Estates course at Biltmore, I did. 10:09 I found the ball, but technically the ball was OB and I could like use my club to reach in this person's yard and fish my ball back out. So under the pretense of the English language, yes, I played that entire round with the same ball. 10:27 But I think if you pull. It out from OB and you still have it like though, it's it's like the Golden Boy. It's like you're going to put this up on something cuz you like you didn't have to pull another ball. You didn't put club face to another ball. Well, then chalk me up with Robbie Berger here where we took that ball that was supposed to be precious to us and I have since lost it. 10:46 So we can, I guess, check this one off. But we're going to add a stretch goal then to say play around with no penalties. Yeah. You know. That's a whole, that's a whole different thing. That's, I guess that's technically a different goal, but I think it's in the same vein. 11:02 Was it a what Was it a bridgie you? Had it was a bridgie. I was back when I was still playing bridgies. OK, all right. You had a goal here. Break 90. Tell us what your personal best is still and then. So the personal best if you'd where. On where you think this will happen. 11:18 Yeah. So if you if you listen to the goal setting podcast that we did at the beginning of the year, the day before we recorded that I shot a 93 at Mission Trails, albeit a shorter course. I played an entire round with A5 iron or no more than A5 iron like off the tee and managed to just keep the ball in play and in front of me. 11:40 So the 93 happened there, but obviously who wants to go out and hit a 5 iron the entire round? Not me. I wanna hit driver and IF and I feel like I'm working on some things. I recently hurt my back and I honestly think that hurting my back is going to actually do wonders for my golf game. 11:59 I know I'm potentially jinxing it here by saying it out. Louder like Ricky of the year. Like shoulder all of a sudden. Just, well, it has not speed up anything or put me in a better, I think, I don't think it's put me in a better position. I think what it's honestly done is forced me to slow everything down. 12:16 And for a lot of amateur golfers, it comes down to like tempo and mobility. So I don't feel like I'm necessarily overreaching in my backswing anymore. And I feel like I've slowed a lot of things down. I know that this is somewhat the the kiss of death that I'm just putting here out in the ether and I'm gonna continue to suck for a little bit. 12:36 But I think I think we're rotating this forward and seeing how that can actually help. If I if I break 90 this year, I think it comes with a round that has the No 3 putts or the No2 chips for sure. 12:51 Like those are things that if you can eliminate out of your game, it is going to help you break 90 for sure, man. Like I feel like randomly I could play Torrey Pines out here and break 90. That's a bold statement. 13:09 I mean, Tori's open. I understand why. You're saying that and I think I 'cause I think it's, I think it's a proximity type thing. And again, if I can get away with a no No 3 putts or No2 chips on, on Tori, I'd also love to do it with potentially you in town playing around at maybe Rancho Bernardo in. 13:26 I think I've carted like close to like a 95 there. It's a little bit tougher of a course, but if I I feel like if I have the driver in play enough, just in play, I think we could do it there. I think if there's a San Diego, of course you you will do it at. 13:42 If we could get on, it'd be Coronado. Yeah, Coronado's also another one that's like open enough municipal style that's not super difficult on the greens. It's flat, yeah. I think that could be a good one. We just got to get on real quick, back to the rookie of the year. 14:00 If you had like a nostalgic 90s movie night, what's the movie you're putting on? By myself or am I watching with other people? Let's say with Ashley, you're just like relaxing. It's just a comfort thing, but you want to like a nostalgic vibe, you know? 14:17 I'll tell you mine if you need a second to think about it. I mean, it's, it's so tough because my fiance has not seen like any good movies from the late 90s. So like, if I want to watch a good older movie, it's it's it's obviously closer to the turn of the century, but like fiance hasn't seen the Matrix and the Matrix. 14:35 It's just such a good movie, like. How she never seen the matrix? Dude, the the, the, the, the I have stopped the I can't believe you've never seen that dialect around my home because it I'm no longer surprised to buy anything from her. 14:52 Yeah. No offense, take it. Mike's that way across the street. He's like, you know, Star Wars. Never seen him. She's never seen Star Wars either. Yeah, Yeah. What about you? What's what's what? Matrix is a good one. 15:07 I don't think she's ever even seen, like, a Happy Gilmore. Like, if we want to lean into the gulf of this, you know, maybe we run her with a Happy Gilmore so that I can force her to sit down and watch the sequel that's coming out. I don't know. Yeah, yeah. What about you? My favorite movie, one of my favorite movies is The Sandlot. 15:24 It's just a feel good nostalgic, like it's got it hits all the points like childhood baseball, 4th of July and all that kind of fun stuff. And I've been waiting till Kai's old enough to watch that movie. I think it's probably right around the corner. So next July 4th maybe we put it on on a projector or something like that. 15:43 But that's like my feel good. It's also just super quotable, like the amount of times I've probably said lines from The Sandlot and people like if people don't pick up on them, you're like, that person's never seen Sandlot. Or am I just too deep in it and know all the deep cuts? Well, you do. 15:59 You're Mr. Deep Cut, you know. I'm I'm I'm Mr. Reference for sure. Yeah, OK. Last one here, you had get an eagle this year. OK so we've had a look this year. We I'd like to report back that we have had a look that infamous first day where I could not wrangle the driver in at Rams Hill. 16:22 Sean and I were playing A2 man best ball against surreal and ref who were on the trip and on the pod for that. And there is a long downhill par 5 at Rams Hill. I believe it's hole #11 and we caught a tailwind that day and ever and I was hitting driver poorly. 16:44 It wasn't a secret to anyone. But you say there's no way I'm keeping it in the bag for this one. There's no shot I'm not hitting driver on this downhill par five with a tail. Because what happens if I, you know, swing hard? Because what happens if you hit it good, right? 17:00 So hit a hit a driver that stays in play. There's a little a little inside baseball here. There's a little Creek that kind of runs down the left side of that of that course or of that hole. I'm sorry. And I managed to stay outside of that even though everything was definitely going left. 17:18 And then I caught maybe the thinnest 4 iron ever from probably like what it was probably like 225 two thirty out. I when I told you the yardage and you grab four, I thought to myself he'll be right in front of that green side bunker with the downhill. 17:36 Yeah, and I caught it a little thin. And what's crazy about Rams Hill that's a little bit different from some other desert golf courses that I don't think that we gave it enough credit on the podcast about is there's a lot of undulation out there. So I hit it thin and it ran. 17:54 And the way that that green complex is built out was that it ran. It ran into where Sean was saying in front of that, that green side bunker on the right, but then still just had enough steam to where it trickled down, funneled and funneled down onto the green and I probably had what, 8 footer? 18:14 Think you had eagle 8 to 10 feet for eagle, Yeah. 8 to 10 was the range for an eagle and sadly missed the eagle putt, as we all did. It was so close, too. It was so close. Like, ever. Like Rev talked about it on the pod where he's like, we wanted you to have that. 18:31 Yeah. So I, I, I think it's still in the cards. I think there's still enough short par fours out there in the world. I feel good enough about my short game right now that I think there's a world in which one day we randomly just chip one in on a drivable par 4 or we drive a par four and sink a putt. 18:50 So there. Could be one. There could be one this Saturday. We got some elevation we're going to be playing in. We do. We do have some elevation up in Tahoe. My bachelor party is this weekend. So we've got all 11 guys going out for a round of golf. So who knows if we could be perfectly in the pocket. 19:08 The drinks are flowing, swinging freely enough and it maybe it just happens. So that was that was the last one for me. I think we've very happy to report that we've essentially checked 2 off. We're for sure gonna check at least a third off and knowing that it's it's one big domino to fall that could cause a lot of others to fall for me. 19:31 Yeah. But let's, let's, let's talk about yours. I won't dive into the big one that we alluded to at the at the top of the pod. Save that one for last. Oh, OK. So the first one I want to talk about play in three scrambles this year. 19:49 Yeah, so I've only played in one so far and that was with you at Balboa. We played with content caddy Greg as well as Bernadette from Babes Golf and that was an amazing tournament. Great vibes. 20:06 Such a fun like crew we went to. I always pronounce it wrong. Rev's gonna kill me for saying this. You want me to just say it and save you it? Yep. Please, it's Dunedin. Dunedin. OK, not Dunedin or any of that stuff. Dunedin. And that was good. 20:21 It was fun. So yeah, I got the taste for it. And that was early. That was like Feb, I think. So I could have sworn in the spring when all the scrambles come to Scottsdale, I was like, I'm going to play in at least one more. And there was one that I was supposed to play in with Mike. He he got hurt. 20:37 He couldn't do it. And I was gonna play with one with Jesse and then he couldn't do it. So I got 2. I got to figure out by the. End of the day, when is the annual sun Burrows one? Unfortunately it's no longer happening. Very sad about that. 20:52 I banked on that one being my second one. That's what I I was like, I was like, I know that when he set this goal for three, he he knew he was baseline starting at 1. Yeah, I won't go too far into it, but apparently things got a little too rowdy at the last one, so. 21:09 Yikes. You know, the the free margaritas, the Margarita machine could have been the crux there, OK. If Tim's listening to this, the owner please please please bring back the sombreros open. It was such a fun event. Free breakfast burritos and margaritas like when you walk up. 21:26 So much fun. OK, let's talk about getting your son on the course. With your dad, OK, so I have put both of them in the center of my focus this year. 21:42 OK, I, I knew I was like, get it early, try and do this, but he's got to have the attention span to make it. OK, So my thought, your son, not your dad, we'll get into my dad in a second, but my son's five. 21:59 So you know, he he wants to do it. He loves golf. OK, he's into it. He builds Lego all the time here and he's been building a lot of Lego golf stuff lately. So like he's telling me he's into it. We've been going to the, the little Greenbelt chipping. So I'm like, OK, we'll work up to it. 22:15 Go to the range, hasn't made it through a small bucket yet, so probably 1015 balls in. He wants to go putt and then he wants to leave. So I thought, OK, well let's go to a place where I can get a cart because maybe the cart's the thing that gets him excited, right? 22:32 So we went to Dobson. Dobson has a really cool thing in the back called Charlotte's. It's like a little mini 3 hole thing. So we get in the cart and he is loving it. He's like smiling, the wind's hitting him, we're playing music. He's like having such a great time. We get over there and he plays all three and he wants to keep going like we got it, this is it. 22:50 So I'm going to book a round of Dobson, I think, and we're going to do a nine hole round with him and my dad in the fall and that's where we're going to probably get it done, but it hasn't happened yet. OK, we, I mean, there's again half your check in, still plenty of time to build it up. But Speaking of your dad, you did have another goal associated with your dad. 23:08 You wanted to play 3 rounds with him this year. Where are we at on that? Proud to say we checked that goal off on Sunday. Played my third round with him. Heck yeah. Check it out. Got a great story. So I think on the first pod of the goals, we talked about how he doesn't pay more than like 40 bucks. 23:25 Like, you know, doesn't want to pay #2 What people don't know about him is he plays fast and he hates slow play and he thinks he's whispering when he's talking about someone being slow, but like, they can hear. I don't think he, I don't think he thinks he's whispering. 23:42 I think he jokingly says like Oh my bad I thought I was whispering but he's actually saying it out loud. Eventually one day we'll have my dad Greg on this podcast. He's a character. But The funny thing was we get paired up with another father son duo on Sunday. 23:58 Great. OK, good vibes. The guy's got a Georgia Bulldogs head cover on his thing that the old the dad does. The older dad is probably like in his 70s. He is sitting in the cart. My dad goes, ah, and he sees the Georgia Bulldogs thing and and he says, I forget the line, but there's a line. 24:17 You say to other Georgia Bulldog fans, it's like the equivalent of Bear down to U of A, But there's like a there's like a phrase. It's not just go dogs. Maybe it's go dogs. I forget what it was, to be honest, but my dad says the phrase and it's just quiet in the other golf cart. 24:34 Oh boy. And so he kind of, my dad just leans into it and says it louder. And the guy kind of turns and doesn't really understand. And my dad's like, you're Georgia head cover. And I think that was the first thing this older guy heard was my dad saying you're Georgia head cover. And he's like, yeah, just like awkward. 24:51 This is on the first team for teed off. This is. This is this. This feels like a Sean Massey story that you're telling about yourself too. Like, well. I. I mean my dad, me and Kai is a very Direct Line. Here, Linear. 25:07 Yeah. It's just very funny to know that in this instance, in these awkward scenarios, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree where you're like, check this out. I'm gonna drop this sick reference on this guy and I'm gonna get in cool with him. And then he doesn't hear it the first time, I say it the second time. And he's like cool, like, and he, and he doesn't reciprocate the excitement that you have for it. 25:30 Or they're just, yeah. Or it's like, it's his brother's bag 'cause he's in town and he's playing with like his nephew or something. And he's like, not my bag. I have no idea what you, you know, it's like a see a guy wear like with an Auburn head cover. You're like War Eagle. And he's like, fuck is War Eagle like? Yeah, well, that's where Sean would have abandoned the the bit. 25:48 My dad leans in and goes dogs right? You know how dogs is. He's going the guy, the guy doesn't get out of the cart and so the sun hits, we hit and we're like, oh, maybe he's not playing well. No, he's actually going to tee up. 26:04 So #1 good on this guy. I appreciate someone who plays the appropriate Tees. OK, He gets up there and it probably took maybe 2 1/2 minutes for this guy to tee off from the time he went to grab his club to, to go up to Tia's ball, to slimber up to swing or whatever. 26:23 I'm like, maybe it was just the first tee box. Yeah, you get up to the second ball, but he hit a good drive. He hit like a. Little baby cut. Bait in the middle. So you can't, you can't get mad at good at a slow. Play no and then second ball, he takes probably another minute. My dad's like this guy is going to piss me off today. 26:40 The guy hits it. The guy hits it to like 10 feet, sinks the birdie putt Birdie's the 1st hole. Everyone gets lucky once in a while. You get to the 2nd hole, the guy parse the 2nd hole, parse the 3rd hole, parse the 4th hole, parse the 5th hole. 26:56 He's one under through 5 from one tee up from us. This guy's a stick. The vibe absolutely changes and by the end of the run my dad's like we should get his number, he was cool, we should play with him again. It's incredible that that's a that's another reason why you should want to be good at golf is that everybody you get, you get that little extra wiggle room in terms of golf etiquette, golf rules, stuff like that, that people will forgive you if you're good, but then also like you just inherently become a cooler guy as long as you're not a human like you can be. 27:34 As long as you're not a douche, you can actually. As long as you're not like a huge douche, you can be kind of a Dick and be good at golf and people are like, yeah, I liked him. He was a cool guy. Fight him back. Whereas if you're me and you're terrible at golf, you got to be really cool, Yes. 27:53 It's like, it's like being unattractive. You got to be funny, right? So if you're bad at golf, you got to be fun or you got to be resourceful, right? Bring snacks, bring uncrustables, bring beers. Control the ox. Like all those things. Oh, they had incredibles of the cart and I had one. 28:10 It was really good. And then, yeah, I was a game changer. By the way, when you first moved to San Diego, I think I said that about you, 'cause you were worried about going out and playing as a single with your, with the state of your golf game at the time. And I was like, just go buy a round of drinks for the guys and they'll call you back every single time. Just go. Be extra nice. 28:26 Just buy. Just buy people like an affection that always works. There you go. OK, let's talk about some of these ones that are a little bit more golf specific. Here you had to play around with 15 greens in regulation hit. 28:44 Where are we at? 13 is my Max so far. Where? It's actually at Longbow in Mesa. Longbow fits my eye. A lot of right to left holes. It's just like the lefties paradise. 29:01 But the other course that I think I'll do this at is Dobson. I just haven't done it at Dobson yet. Yeah, you know, you know enough about Dobson, you won't get boned by like, oh, I thought that this green would hold that ball. Yeah. Or big. Greens too big greens is the name of the game for for playing round with 15 greens and right for sure, for sure. 29:20 That's what I really need to do. OK, OK, so close, but we're not there yet. Yeah. All right, let's talk about, I guess these two kind of fall in the same category. I'm saving the big one here for for last. You have play one round with seven other friends. 29:39 Yeah. And then play 15 rounds with you. Those are the 215 rounds with me together. Yep. So we have a round coming up this Saturday for your bachelor party with 11 guys. So we're going to be checking that one off. That was a bit of a, you know, I knew what I was doing when I put that goal in. 29:54 You knew that. You knew that I hadn't set a date yet for my wedding, but it was most likely going to be this year, which meant my bachelor party was going to be this year. And you knew that my bachelor party was going to be with at least eight people. And they need to be golf on your bachelor party. Yep, I'm looking forward to that so much. 30:10 And then 15 rounds with you. So we're at the midway point. We've played seven as far as I can count. Balboa Goat twice, Rams twice. Mountain Shadows. Ambiente. I think that is correct. I don't think that we have snuck in any others. 30:28 There was supposed to be a few more that got cancelled. We had some inclement weather. We were supposed to play in Temecula when you were out earlier this year and it was pouring rain for like back-to-back days soaking. Rain, yeah. Yeah, this 115 is 15 was high knowing that I put myself at 20 rounds total. 30:50 But was this, did we caveat this thinking that there was a chance that you were going to move this year? No. No, no, no, no. OK, don't put those rumors out there yet. I, I mean, maybe it's just, maybe I'm just speaking it into existence cuz I want to do existence. 31:05 Isn't it so bad cuz it would unlock so many things for this podcast and for our social media channels? There's a chance that happens next year. We'll get there. But anyways, no, I think so we have. 8 coming up chance. We have 8 this Saturday, so we're over the halfway point in July. 31:23 I think there's a chance this gets done. I think we're going to have to push pretty hard in Q4. My guess is Q3 because of your wedding and everything, we're not going to have a lot of other rounds. Well, I mean, if if we managed to sneak one in while you're out for the wedding, that's another one that we can play. Are we? I mean I. 31:40 I've been leaving you alone on that because I I assume that you're just, you know, you're available. The venue, the venue that we picked is including a golf round for us, as you know, you know, you spend, you know, you spend however much money to plan a wedding. 31:57 And then they go, yeah, yeah, yeah. We'll throw in two tee times for you. Guys, but we're not taking you up before the wedding because you're a ginger and you're. Going to get the problem is, is that I have been barred from playing golf probably a few weeks before my wedding. I think I'm around. I'm around right now on on August 9th. 32:14 I'm playing a I'm playing a tournament with Rev at Goat Hill and I think that might be the last golf round. That might be the last time I might be able to see the outside world. It's like, it's like a code freeze at a company like before Christmas. 32:30 That is this website for three weeks. That is such a good metaphor for this. It is a code freeze. No one can do anything to the structure of my code for three weeks before the wedding 'cause I cannot have an uneven. The the real problem is it's not my arms, it's not my hands. 32:47 It's the wearing of a hat and getting like that hat line or having like my face be a different color from my neck. Yeah, yeah. So I think there might be an opportunity to slide in a day or two after the wedding and get out for a maybe an early round or a twilight round. 33:06 OK, I am staying till Tuesday morning so if you want to do it on. Well, there we go. We can talk about it. And also this, this last goal, I think would also be another round that we would play together. As we alluded to at the top of the pod, you want to score one round in the 60s on a par 72. 33:27 Where are we at? Where do we think this could happen? How can I help? Help me help you. My personal best this year is even par 72 at Dobson and I think on the pod I said Dobson's most likely the place it's going to happen. 33:46 Plus your boy got the Dobson Ranch card. So I got $20 rounds of Dobson all year long. So it's the place to do it and just put them in. I started playing more because of this goal and specifically got the Dobson card because I knew this is probably where it's going to happen. 34:05 But I had some other really good looks recently. I played legacy and legacy started off so hot. I I made the turn at legacy like one under or even par and I was like, oh shit. And then I realized, do I want it to happen at legacy? 34:21 Like I had this weird feeling of like, do I pull back? I'm like, no, anytime you can break. 70 you're going. To try, right? But then I like, what are my scorecard during a round? I know. But I started figuring out like, you know, I'm probably going to frame it. And I was like, do I want Legacy to be the one? I was like, I don't want Dobson to be the one. 34:37 I guess I'm saving myself so. I mean. Yeah. Here's the other thing, is that so you said your best this year is a 72. Is that your best score to par ever? No, I've shot A711 under. 34:54 That's my best so and that was at Ocotillo. So I'm at least two strokes better than my personal best to to get this goal, which is the one I'm afraid of. It's it was ambitious. It's, I mean you like you've, you've the 71 that you shot was the only time that you've shot under par, correct? 35:14 No, I've done that one other time. I've gone under board twice. OK, so you've done that twice, so you know that that's in the card. But yeah, you're talking about it. There's there's that mental game of of, of like for me, shooting 90 versus breaking 90 are two entirely different things. 35:31 Because when you look at like how I look at it, I don't want to, I don't want to completely railroad your entire, your entire process and your goal here. But like when people talk about like, oh, shooting 90 is just playing bogey golf, right? But then breaking 90 is not just you have to do 1 better than that. 35:49 There's another stroke that has to come off somewhere there. And if you get a double somewhere, you know that you have to at least part even that one out. So you're thinking about that the whole time. Yep, yeah, Yep. So I can only imagine what that's like to do, you know, to get to 69 and not just 70. 36:06 So Dobson specifically, the reason I think it's going to happen there is the ball stays inbounds. There's not a lot of Obi know the course like the back of my hand. And I started thinking about it last time I played. If you come out in Thanksgiving time, December, and film me playing there, there will be, I think, what's obvious to you and viewers. 36:25 I know exactly what I need to get on every hole in order to break 72. I've played so many rounds there that I know which holes, if I don't at least do it, that it's not going to happen. And so, for example, hole one par five, if I par that hole, there's a chance, but if I birdie that hole, we're in a great start, obviously, but that's a hole you should birdie 18. 36:48 I think I've birdied that the last 10 rounds in a row, right? So my thought is like, I know which holes I have the option to go a little aggressive if I'm trying to make this happen. And every time I go aggressive, something happens. So that's that's why I'm scared. Yeah, it's it. 37:05 Do you think that the that it being on camera and knowing that regardless of what happens, we're going to put it out into the world starts to get in your head a little bit too? Maybe, but. Specifically, I don't want to film myself. I don't want to touch a piece of camera equipment. 37:20 I want to be able to focus on the golf. It's significant. It's significantly nicer not recording your own shots. I I did it when we did our first Fair Wagers episode where I went out and recorded myself playing Tori. Luckily I had Blake with me to grab the camera, hold the camera when there's some uneasy terrain or whatnot, but the idea of standing over a ball and thinking, did I press record here before you're about to swing does not necessarily help with any sort of swing process. 37:53 No, you. Rush everything. You rush everything. It's yeah, you. So you just let the other person run it and you know, I can be there as as vibes, I can be there as not vibes. But it definitely adds still adds a little bit more pressure because if you go out and you get that bogey, you've got to then you know that you have to start playing aggressive. 38:12 And then in your head, you probably start thinking, well, if I play aggressive, there's a chance I make more mistakes. And then the round starts to spiral. And then you end up like a Michael Morris shooting 100 in a pro event and looking really bad And people being like, you know, how many shots does this guy take to film his YouTube golf rounds? 38:32 Like I, I will finish that round on camera no matter what and we can post it. But I view this goal as like a speed runner on a video game where they know like at so many minutes through that it's not going to happen and they just restart the game. That's how I feel sometimes at Dobson where I'm like, oh Nope, we're already behind the 8 ball, not going to happen. 38:51 And then like I kind of want to go back to the first hole, I mean. I mean, I mean, that's, that's the that's the entire idea behind a behind a breakfast ball, right? Pound one OB off the first team, you know, like, yeah, this round's fucked. Might as well start a new one. True. OK, so, so some good progress from both of us. 39:08 I, I, I'm, I'm very happy to see that we've both checked off goals already through the halfway point. And I'm, I'm proud of both of us too, for that on the back here. But, you know, keeping these in front of us, you know, I didn't print these out or anything, but I'm thinking about them A. 39:24 Lot so yeah. OK, let's do goals for fair wagers and must play. So let's start with fair wagers here. You had two goals for fair wagers in 2025. I'll let you save the goals and also think about, you know, where you set the bar come early in the year and whether you think that was a good bar to set. 39:45 Yeah. So at the beginning of the year, the first one I set out for us was on Instagram. I wanted us to have 3000 followers by the end of the year. We had started the account last year and at the turn of the year, I think we were around somewhere around 1700. 40:01 So I was thinking, OK, cool. If we if we duplicate the success that we had in the first year, we'd be somewhere around 3000. I, I also note that I added a caveat on this of less than 1500 follows. I think with a lot of social media platforms, it's very easy to go out and to go follow other accounts and get them to follow you back. 40:21 And then you guys both just follow each other and you go, oh, they still follow me. I still follow them. We're, we're not going to unfollow each other. So I think I wanted to try and build more of our audience around people who have seen our content and like our content. I'm very happy to report back that we smashed this goal. 40:40 Shout out Instagram trials and being able to republish older content and get it out to newer audiences. We will probably be fingers crossed, maybe even this week cross over the 6000 follower mark on Instagram. 40:55 So we, I, I, I understated this or I guess I underestimated the, the capability of us and I guess I underestimated the validation of social proof. I think, I think honestly, like, I think that first, like your first, I think your first 1000 or 2000 are probably your hardest to get it because you also have to have some form of consistency to get to that point. 41:22 Like people don't necessarily want to follow an account that has 20 posts, 40 posts, whatever. Like unless you're absolutely smashing content, but then you have to stay in front of those people, right? To get those numbers up, you have to keep making more content. So consistency has been absolutely key here in helping grow this number. 41:40 The podcast helps a ton with that in being able to have recurring clips to continually put out to social. So the stretch goal for us now is we want to be at 10,000 by the end of the. Year. Oh, there's a stretch goal. Hold on, let me update this. I mean, you can update it. We've talked about it. I, I can, we can put it out into the world. 41:57 We're going to record at the end. Of the year we got, we got. An so, so I want to see where we're at at the end of the year at 10,000 and, and you want to see and see where we're at because I think, I think also once the number, I feel like my, my, my marketer brain says that social proof lies heavy in these types of things where once the number starts to get higher, it validates to people who come in and potentially see your profile. 42:22 Like, oh, this many people already follow this page, then yeah, I'll definitely follow it. And I think that's why also the first like 1000 or 2000 are, are hard to get because it's like, oh, nobody, nobody knows about this person. Why is, why is no one following this person? 42:37 They must not make great content. Speaking of hard to get, you want to talk about YouTube? We can talk about YouTube. The other one that I want to talk about that we had set out for Instagram was a paid product placement. Technically, we have not hit this one. We have gotten paid posthumously for work that we have created for Instagram. 42:58 We've had companies come to us and say, hey, we love the video that you created. Can we pay you for that and run that as an ad, which we have so graciously done, obviously. So that's been that's been kind of cool. I think this one is pseudo checked off, but I would love to have a company come to us and say, hey, we love what you guys do. 43:18 We love, we love the content that you guys make. We'd love to pay you to make an ad or a video for us and go from there. But like Shawna touched on, Speaking of YouTube, for the fair wagers and things that are hard to come by subscribers, we had a goal of 500 subscribers. 43:38 I don't remember where we were at. Does your document have where we were at at the turn of the year? We were just under 2. We were at like 160 I think or something like that. OK, So then we have doubled this number this year. Right now as of when I look this morning, we were at 333. 43:56 Lucky, lucky, lucky threes. For those out there who they're into numbers, but this has been this is this is kind of a tough one. YouTube subscribers are are very, very tough to to come by. I think I think we recognize that the amount of content that we put out does not come out frequently enough or was not coming out frequently enough to necessarily garner a subscriber. 44:22 And I also understand that when we do golf course specific content, sometimes people come in and they listen to the podcast or watch the video on that specific golf course and they're like, OK, cool. They talked about my favorite golf course and I'm gone. I don't need to hear them talk about Goat Hill or I don't need to hear them talk about Rams Hill. 44:39 They I like them talking about Wildwood or whatever. Right. So this one's a little bit tougher to come by because we do, you know, some of our podcast stuff I would say is a little bit more niche in a niche, very geographic specific. So that's why we have decided to bump up the cadence of must play episodes to help with that. 44:59 I think that's selfishly why I'm pushing Sean to move to California so that we can film more actual golf also. Also let us know where you want us to review of course, right? So if like you haven't seen yours yet and you want to you want us to do 1. There's been a couple guys in YouTube comments, one here in Phoenix has been commenting about Sterling Grove that I haven't played yet that I kind of want to go take a look at. 45:23 But we're getting some people to comment that like they're waiting for us to go review some of those courses. TPC, Scottsdale, Phoenician, Sterling Grove. I keep seeing those 3 Quintero week of POD. Those are the five I think that most people in Phoenix are waiting to see a, a video about. 45:38 Yeah, which I'm not going to tease anything, but let's say maybe by the end of the year we get you out here to play at least one of those. Yeah. And we have, I know we have one of those fives for sure coming out soon. Yeah. And then on top of that, I think there's a few in San Diego like I think people have always talked about the a lot of the nicer courses out here, the Aviar's of the world, the Madeiras's of the world, I think those are Aviar was on my list of courses to try and play this year as well. 46:04 So I would love to to, to crack that one off the list. But yeah, 333, if you're listening on YouTube right now and you're not subscribed, why don't you hit that button for us? Help us get a little closer to this goal. What are you doing? Like, comment, subscribe, turn the bell on. 46:20 Like you don't have to do it all if, but if you want to subscribe, we'd love it. Yeah, my family's hungry. I need you to subscribe. I would love to quit my job. No kidding I love my job but I would also love to play golf full time and do stuff golf related. OK, OK, so must play goals, pod goals, must play specific goals because obviously on YouTube, we've also helped bolster up some of the subscribers on YouTube by repurposing some social content. 46:44 So that's helped garner some followers for us as well. It's not just people loving the podcast and subscribing. They like everything that we make. So for must play the physical must play plaque in a pro shop has not happened yet. I won't say that it's not because we don't want it to happen. 47:05 I think if we really want to, if November 1st rolls around and no GM and a pro shop or anything has reached out to us or no golf course owners. Gonna place one. No, I think we could reach out and I think we could say, hey, we want to do this for you guys and we'll we'll associate the cost as long as you promise it'll go up somewhere in your pro shop, I think we can do that. 47:29 Do you want to elaborate on what has gone up in a on a course? I mean, we've got stickers up on the door up at Wildwood on the infamous sticker door that leads into the leads into the pro shop. I, I sent stickers out to Ryan and Ryan was Ryan was gracious enough to, to slap him up there amongst many other podcast guests and friends of the brand that are also on that door. 47:53 So it's very cool to see our branding and our logo up there with everybody else. But I also want to have, you know, a spot in there where, you know, somebody feels like our recognition deserves a spot in their pro shop. You know that we that I want someone to feel like our opinion matters enough to have that spot selfishly. 48:13 Yeah. The next one here, 100 followers on Spotify. We are currently halfway through that. We are at 50. So this one is is I would say it's probably trending below where we need to be. 48:29 If, if, if we're looking at like a forecast or we're just looking at a trend line, it's below where it needs to be. So if for some reason you have discovered us via our mid year check in on our golf goals and podcast goals and you are not a subscriber or a follower on Spotify, smash that button, rate US five stars. 48:50 That stuff helps for sure. You know, maybe I run a campaign here where you know every person who does that, I'm going to send them a dollar. So we got our first comment on Spotify, by the way. We did. It was an angry comment as no one on the Internet is surprised by. Yeah. 49:06 So OK, we will stop saying numbies. We we talked a lot about numbers on this podcast and not once we use the term numbies. Obviously we were imbibing on that podcast too, so we get a pass. It was the Rams Hill podcast. We had been drinking all day, so cut me a little slack here. 49:27 The next one here, 10,000 new podcast listens. So at the turn of the year, I believe we were around 2500 or 2600 listens. I'm happy to report, as of the reporting this morning, we had just crossed over 10,000 total all time listens across YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts. 49:49 So you hit it this morning? No. So hold on, this was 10,000 new listens. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So we, so we were at 2500 total or at the beginning of the year we're at 10,000 total now. So we're at 7500 for the year, barring, barring anything cataclysmic happening, we are going to smash through this goal. 50:13 Not going to set a stretch one because I don't know what could happen, no. No, no, no. You know we're going to keep that one where it's at. The next two are a little tough 8. Female guests, I had set this goal. 50:32 Sean had Sean had set this goal to my surprise. Yeah. And we are under where we need to be. We have had. Three or we have 4. I think we're at 2:00, but I could be counting that wrong. 50:49 Well, we did Bernadette, right? Was that this year or was that last year that was this? Year Bernadette was this year. We had Alex from Babes Golf, correct? Is that the only two we've had? We've had three total counting Alyssa, New lady, but that was last year. 51:05 But that was last year. We are at two this year. I I know who I think the next one will be, so maybe that will be 3 this year. But yeah, that's tough. We've got a few, we've got a few in the cards and I think with with level selects because we we must play, it's a little tough because we we are striving really, really hard and want to keep must plays as first hand experiences. 51:30 We want to have them be courses that Sean and I and the guests have played. So the the Venn diagram of that is a very small overlap of people. So when we reach out to a guest and then we're trying to find a course that maybe overlaps with what they've played and what we've played doesn't happen, then we've got to kind of push them into the level select format or then we're going to have them on for a bonus round. 51:54 So I think with us increasing the frequency, there's a lot more opportunities with having a, a for sure bonus round every month to have more females on. This one's going to be close. I'll say that. I think we're going to make a very concerted effort to to get there. 52:12 But I it's gonna, we're gonna cut it. Really. Close. What if we do 1 megapod with like 8 guests? That counts. We just do a we just do a women's golf round table and have six women on and. That sounds fun. That sounds like a lot of. 52:28 Fun. It would be really fun. I think it might come off a little weird as the two men hosting it trying to figure out what's what, What are we doing here or, or then being like, here's my opinion, here's what happens to me and you and I being like, yes, insightful, like, yeah. 52:45 So do you want to host this one so I can be a guest? That's so. So Soph was supposed to come on and we should, we were supposed to that one of the rounds that Sean and I were supposed to play in Temecula was supposed to be with Soap and then we were supposed to do a must play episode and we had to cancel that round. So that was maybe that's the one that you were thinking of. 53:02 That was the third, but then it disappeared off the radar. Well, I know I'm hopefully going to be able to play around with her throughout this year at some point. I plan on coming out. I would love she's. I know she's played Rancho Bernardo. Maybe that's of course we can review. But yeah, yeah. 53:18 All right. And then the last one, play and review at least two courses not in a state that at prior to, you know, this year we had already done so nothing in California, nothing in Arizona, Washington or Oregon. 53:37 Very sad to report that this goal is still at 0. No does how the? Go ahead, does a review as a level select count if I go play a course and tell you about it? 53:58 Man, I mean, it, it First off, I think it'd be, I don't know if it'd be weird having you on as a level select. You know, it's, it's funny because we had started level select. So then obviously we have featured courses outside of these states. 54:13 We've we've done Florida, we've done Nebraska, we've done North Carolina, we've done Maine. Like we were just about to have Texas here soon. Like the, the, the outside exposure of our Pacific Coast and Southwest has happened. 54:32 You know, do we get half of a point for playing something in Northern California this week, like going to Tahoe? It's gotta be like. It's like us going to go see Blake and playing Cabot maybe. Yeah, you know, you just play 2 courses out there and knock out this. 54:47 Goal in one, I'll be, I'll be brutally honest that unless a like level select trip happens in the back half of this year, like in probably Q4, I don't think we're going to get to this one. Babe, I can't make Christmas Eve. 55:05 We're trying to hit this goal. Oh my God. Or just like, yeah. Or just being like, yeah, I know that I was supposed to come to Arizona for Thanksgiving this year, but I need to cancel that. Sean and I have to go play 2 courses in Reno, actually. God, that's what we should. That's honestly what we should have done. 55:21 We should have. Instead of playing in Tahoe, we should have played in Reno. Oh man, we missed a huge opportunity to get this. Done. What time do you fly out? I'm on the same flight as you, so if we want to get up early we can. 55:40 All right, let's let's round this out with the three courses that we each wanted to play in 2025. I'll go first. So my 3:00 that I really wanted to play this year were Rams Hill, Gamble Sands, and Goat Hill. Happy to report that I knocked out two of the three. 55:56 Already played Rams. Had an awesome time to go up there and got a great experience staying at the house on the hill. Feel like I did Rams right and then Goat Hill. We've reviewed it already in the pod. It was our highest, still is our highest scoring golf course on the must play test and got to meet AZ for the first time in person and go play there twice and absolute delight. 56:17 Still one of my favorite places. Gamble is going to be tough that I really want to go do. We were supposed to maybe make a trip out to go see the new course that just opened up. Mike just went out there and loved it. He was raving about it to me. 56:35 So maybe we'll do a level select on this eventually where we can hear a little bit more about Gamble. But I don't know if I'm going to get out there. It's going to be really tough. I'm going to have to figure out a way to kind of like sneak my way up to Jones and Diaz and then convince him maybe. I don't know. That's a that's quite a trek, too. 56:51 It's a Trek. Yeah, it's it's very tough because also this was somewhat in the cards for us. We had taught we were trying to make it happen and then I had to selfishly go and plan a wedding and need to have a bachelor party and the hand up. 57:12 I'll take all the blame on this when that one's on need. We would have the trip that we would have had to have planned would have been between my bachelor party and my wedding and asking for another weekend to go do something that is golf related is is tough for me. So that's I am the reason we have not done this hand up. 57:31 What? Were your 3? Looking at the three that I have, I had Quintero Aviara and Sandpiper Sandpipers up in Santa Barbara, if you are unfamiliar, and I'm very unhappy to report that I've checked off none of these for some reason. 57:51 I don't know why, but we didn't plan Quintero when I was out and I played three rounds in three days. I can't. Well, when you're out for. Thanksgiving, we can totally go and try and play this. So there's a world in which we sneak in Quintero there. It was closed for a long time this year and that's why we didn't do it. 58:07 It's they're redoing the course, OK. I don't know when they're supposed to open back up, if not already, but at some point this year they're reopening. OK. So that's why we didn't squeeze in Quintero. Aviara, I think is more of just AI have to just pony up and get over there and play it. 58:27 It's I will say it's a little pricey. So it's not on the the grand scheme of like, hey, I want to get out and play golf this weekend. Let me book around. And Aviara is one of the ones that comes up on that list of where should we book around to play this weekend? So that kind of comes down to, you know, how bad do I want it? 58:46 So I'll leave that at that. Sandpiper is an interesting one 'cause that one is also a trek coming up from from San Diego 'cause you got to go all the way through LA where there is never not a delay in traffic. But I know Sean and I have also bounced around, maybe not this year, potentially next year, but doing like a North County LA type trip. 59:09 We've heard really good things about Seoul Park up there from AZ and I've heard it from some other people on social. I've heard a lot of people talk really nice things about the SATA Koi Club. That's another one that I'm that I'm hearing rave reviews about right now that I keep seeing people take photos of and looks absolutely picturesque. 59:28 So maybe there's a, there's an interesting North County LA weekend or extended weekend trip that that you and I plan and we we go out and, and play some rounds. With some some. Some subscribers and some followers and and get some. 59:44 That would be cool. Yeah. Sandpiper, Soul Park, Rustic Canyon, all those Ventura. Rustico's another one. Yeah, that would. Be a lot of fun, yeah? Yeah, there's a lot of, there's a lot of good golf right there, which is, which is pretty crazy. Yeah, and we haven't done an LA course yet, so we need to start doing some of that as well. 1:00:06 I've played a lot out there. I just don't know if you've played. Have you? You've played Monarch, right? Is that where you played? I haven't even played Monarch the the most the furthest N I've played was was was very recently when I played Journey at Pechanga with with surreal. 1:00:25 Oh, that's the furthest north in California. Until Saturday. Until until Saturday, yeah. And then I don't know how much more north we're going to get than that until we go play something on the north side of Lake Tahoe. But. Yeah, also the San Francisco trip I just stayed with Jones was some of my favorite golf I've ever played. 1:00:40 That was just such a cool experience and the weather was amazing. That was one that you probably didn't even have close on your scorecard at the beginning of the year that. No, Northwood, the course that I can go on and on and off, but I won't on this pod. At least that was one that now having played it, I probably should have put on my must like my 3 courses that I should have hit this year. 1:01:01 I didn't. That was a blind spot. I didn't think I was going to go play anywhere up there. And I got an opportunity and like now I think that honestly, it was one of my favorite rounds of golf in my life. Wow. So all right, Northwoods, should we end on that? Yeah, that sounds like a beautiful way to end. It to everyone we name dropped on this pod, you owe us at least one comment and thank you for watching. 1:01:24 At the end of the year, we're. Going to recap how we did and we're also I'm excited to do at the end of the year a rubric where we're going to go through our 10 must play questions and out of all the courses we've talked about this year, we're going to pick who is essentially the the winner of each of those categories, right. Yeah, some really cool, yeah, some really cool stuff coming at the end of the year. 1:01:44 So make sure that you subscribe follow now so that way you don't miss out on that stuff and all the other cool stuff we do in between. But honestly, very quickly before we sign off here, just want to say thank you to like literally everybody, 6000 Instagram followers. And even even though we understated the numbers of YouTube subscribers and Spotify followers, like you guys are awesome. 1:02:05 I know a lot of you guys are die hards and you guys are sending screenshots of you listening to the podcast before we even post our teaser episode out on Instagram or share it to some of our our friends and and contact groups. So huge shout out to you guys. You guys make it all worth doing it. 1:02:21 This has so far yet to feel like a job for us, which has been really cool. So hopefully we get to keep doing more of this and hopefully more and more people start to join along for the ride. I think that's perfect way to end. I don't need to tell anyone what to do because we've been doing it all throughout the pod. 1:02:36 So thank you all for listening and this was a lot of fun. Thank you, TJ, and we'll see you guys soon. Thank you, Sean later.
